Nuclear Security Centers of Excellence in Asia: Harmonization and Nexus

Upcoming Workshop  •  3 July 2013
Posted: 21 June 2013

The Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN) of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), and the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna (PMJ) cordially invite you to attend a workshop entitled "Nuclear Security Centers of Excellence in Asia: Harmonization and Nexus" which will be held on Wednesday, 3 July 2013, at 12:40-13:50 in the conference room of PMJ. The program includes a lunch reception following the international panel, where the participants and experts will be able to exchange their opinions and ideas.

At the Washington Nuclear Security Summit in 2010, Japan, China, and Republic of Korea (ROK) pledged to establish nuclear security support centers or Centers of Excellence (CoE) in their countries in order to enhance nuclear security in the Asian region and the world. A number of countries in Asia are expanding their nuclear power programs while others have plans to launch nuclear power plants and therefore need most vigorous human resource development in the area of nuclear security. Japan established the ISCN in December 2010 and started relevant programs for international, regional and domestic stakeholders. China and ROK are currently developing their centers while working on human resource development within the existing structures.
