On 31 October 2011, the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), along with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) and the Moscow-based Center for Energy and Security Studies (CENESS), hosted a one-day workshop entitled "Nuclear Security Partnership in Southeast Asia." The workshop was part of a joint project funded by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) which is focused on finding solutions for advancing nuclear security in other regions through utilizing lessons learned from the US-Russian and multinational cooperation in the sphere of nuclear security over the past 15 years.

This workshop was devoted to identifying challenges to nuclear security in Southeast Asia and developing collaborative solutions and partnerships to address these issues. Participants from the workshop included experts from Southeast Asia, along with relevant specialists and officials from Australia, the European Union, Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the United States. Officials from the IAEA and the UNSCR 1540 Committee also joined the workshop's discussions.
